Hello, my Okra Pantry family! How is the weather in your various countries? I hope all is well and fine. So have anyone heard of fever leaves? I am very sure you have probably cooked it in a delicious meal before for you and your family. Fever leaves are one of my favorite herbs for flavoring my cassava leaves, potatoes greens and the list goes on. These herbs are well known as “Basil,” but in my side of the world- Liberia, we simply called them “Fever Leaves.”
Fever leaf, also known as scent leaf or clove basil, is a herb commonly found in tropical regions. Also known as Fever Leaves in Liberia and Scent Leaves in Nigeria. It is known for its distinctive aroma and various medicinal properties. Fever leaf is often used in traditional medicine to alleviate symptoms of fever, cough, and colds. Additionally, it is believed to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Therefore, I enjoy prepping my fresh herbs by blending, freezing and storing them for cooking later. So, I purchased these fresh fever leaves from a Liberian owned farm in the Houston area that is operated by Mr. & Mrs. Abraham Paasewe (commonly known as Auntie Jartu & Uncle AB). In culinary practices, fever leaf is used to add flavor to soups, stews, and sauces. Its aromatic leaves can also be infused into teas or used in the preparation of herbal remedies. Due to its rich nutritional profile, fever leaf is considered a valuable ingredient in promoting overall health and well-being.
Please note that while fever leaf has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties, it is always advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before using any herbal remedies.
