ABOUT ME

Welcome to my Pantry and the most important place that stored all the wonderful ingredients for a yummy meal and aroma in the kitchen. I am so glad and humble that you took some precious time out of your day to stop by and check-in with me. Please grab one of your favorite ingredients as I stir up this stew to introduce myself.

I am Angierach and preferably refer to as “Angie” by family and friends. Pronouncing my name is always difficult and hilarious for people, so Angie is always great! I like to travel, interior decoration, motivational coaching and cook! The pantry and kitchen bring out my artistic extracts and inspires the flavor of every meal.

I know your next daring question is how did I learn to cook? Well, I am a self-taught and mom-taught cooker. Growing up as a young girl in Liberia, cooking was one of my primary chores as an elder daughter in the family. I actually started cooking before the age of ten under my mother’s supervision. Now as a wife and mother, I am continuing with the family recipes and home cooking…. yummy!

I live in Houston, Texas with my husband and two precious children. One of my favorite Liberian main dishes is Torborgee Soup – (“Tor-bor-Gee”) and Jasmine Rice with spices. I enjoy drinking tea than coffee. Jumping jacks, squats, planks and dancing are my go-to fitness regime since I am not a frequent gym-goer; I literally get very bored after a week of attending the gym and would prefer a dance class to work off some nutrients from my cooking lol! Music and Documentaries keeps me balanced; watching African Comedy and short clips keeps me laughing. I also enjoy reading cookbooks from different cultures and love spending time with my beautiful family.

About Okra Pantry

I established this blog to share my recipes/cooking with the world. But, most importantly to inspire and motivate people through Liberian Cuisine, encouraging quotes, advice, plus sharing a scoop of my journey as a wife, mother and entrepreneur.

Liberian cuisine can be described as a mixture of coastal West African cuisine with culinary tradition from the American South and the Caribbean. Like most West African countries, Liberian food is built around rice and cassava. Rice is a staple food. In addition to rice and cassava, Liberian eats plantains, banana, sweet potatoes, yams, eddoes, mangoes, papayas, avocados and several fruits and vegetables.

My recipes are unique and inspired by family traditions plus my creative flavors’ combination. I want us all to be open-minded and accepting of other cultures and cuisines. If you want to know more about a culture, the pantry and kitchen must be the first two places for visitation and inquiry. The dialogue around the kitchen table over a delicious dish will always be a lasting memory. My goal is to help readers feel happiness, passion and confidence in cooking with African food ingredients in the kitchen. Finally, I want Okra Pantry to covey an atmosphere of encouragement, warmth and laughter!
